It's been a dull week weather-wise here in Glasgow and I was hoping to lessen the gloom by featuring a beautiful Spring dress as this week's outfit. But, alas, two fabric deliveries that should have shown up in the last two weeks are MIA. Fingers crossed they'll show up this week! As a result, I've fast-forwarded an outfit I planned to feature later next month: a great wardrobe stable - a denim skirt!
Here's what inspired the outfit:
Button-up denim skirts have been really popular for a while now. I tried to find a pattern last summer for this trend, but drew a blank. So, I was so super pleased when Pauline Alice released her Rosari skirt pattern last autumn! It's a great pattern with lots of options - two for length and four for the pockets. I absolutely love the pocket options - particularly the zipped pockets and the pleated patch pockets with flaps.
As I talked about last week, we've got a lot of great denims - all of which would work well with this skirt. To find out more - and to see some images of the denims we sell - click here to see last week's blog post.
As you can see in the inspiration images, such a skirt looks great with a range of both cold-weather and warm-weather tops, including:
- crisp shirts (Grainline Studio's Archer shirt would work well - see my blog post from five weeks ago for more information about this pattern and to see the different types of shirting fabrics we sell)
- jersey tops (Grainline Studio's Lark top - which was featured on the blog last week - is a great option)
- jumpers (great for the current cold snap - or is it just cold in Glasgow?)
- cute summer blouses (Burda's 7079 is similar to the one in the photo above)
It's striking that most of the featured tops are white: I definitely didn't plan this! I don't think that it's a coincidence though: white looks really great paired with a dark denim.
Another thing that looks fabulous paired with a denim skirt is boots (featured in three of the five images!). Flats, pumps and sandals also look great (have a look at my 'Skirts' Pinterest board for more inspiration).
Finally, I just thought I'd let know that we're in the midst of our Spring sale at The Splendid Stitch! You can get 20-25% off a wide range of our fabrics and sewing patterns. You can see what's on sale here. :-)
