Outfit of the Week - Grainline Studio's Lark Tee with McCall's 7197 Skirt

This week's 'Outfit of the Week' is Grainline Studio's Lark Tee with McCall's 7197 flared skirt.  Here's what inspired the outfit:

The Lark Tee is a fantastic T-shirt pattern by Grainline Studio. It's got a modern, slim fit - not extremely baggy or tight.  It's also got loads of options for the neckline and sleeves (as you can see in the line drawing below).  If you're looking for a classic T-shirt pattern that you'll turn to again and again, this is a great one to buy!

I've paired the Lark Tee with McCall's 7197.  This is one of those patterns that I probably wouldn't have given a second look if I was quickly flipping through a pattern catalogue (or I would have given it a second look for all the wrong reasons!).  I am definitely not keen on the fabric or trim they've chosen!

However, this pattern is redeemed by the line drawings.  This is essentially a really nice flared skirt with a few great options for the waistband!  I particularly love the cross-over waistband and the one with the bow.

Drawing on the inspiration images, I've come up with some fabric suggestions - some of our jerseys for the Lark Tee and some of our cotton sateens, suitings and denim for the skirt.  You can see all the recommended fabrics at the bottom of this page.

I love the pink and red combination in the inspiration photos.  Here's our new dark pink Aurele viscose jersey paired with our red Leonore cotton sateen.  Have you ever worn red and pink together?  I've been seeing this combination a lot in the past few months in the fashion blogosphere.  I haven't tried it yet, but I have to admit that it's growing on me!

My other favourite in the inspiration photos is the plaid skirt.  Our navy and green poly-viscose plaid would work well.  I've paired it here with our black Aurele viscose jersey.

Grey on grey is a popular trend at the moment - one that I've been wearing a lot.  I'd actually never thought of pairing different grey garments together, until I saw a suggestion to try this on a fashion blog.  I've been pairing a light grey top with a darker grey long cardigan, and I really love the way they look together: somehow, it feels elegant and strangely calming!  Here, I've paired our new light grey Rosalie viscose jersey with our grey Eva poly-viscose suiting. Our light grey Dorothea wool suiting and our grey Murray tweed would also pair well with this jersey!

I love this graphic sateen - which I've paired with our light pink Aurele viscose jersey. I think this sateen would also look great with our black Aurele viscose jersey.

Finally, I love this colour combination of white and beige.  Here I've paired our white Rosalie viscose jersey with our beige lightweight stretch denim.

Again, you can see all the recommended fabrics at the bottom of this page.
