Outfit of the Week - 15 June 2015
Our outfit of the week for 15 June 2015 is Grainline Studio's Alder shirt dress. Get 10% off this pattern until 12 pm on Monday, 22 June 2015! Find the pattern (and all the coordinating fabrics) at the bottom of this page.
Grainline Studio's Alder is a loosely-fitted, sleeveless shirt dress. It has two options. View A is a classic shirt dress with an a-line silhouette and a curved hem, while View B has a lovely design detail: a gathered skirt at the sides and back! Both views have breast pockets. Grainline Studio has also produced a number of variations on their blog (from left to right in the images below):
- mandarin collar
- turning Alder into a shirt
- adding sleeves (from Grainline Studio's Archer shirt pattern)
This pattern is rated as intermediate in difficulty. If you're an advanced beginner looking to learn new skills, I would definitely encourage you to give this pattern a try. Grainline Studio has a detailed sew along on their blog, and you will learn new skills such as inserting a shirt collar and sewing a button band.
Drawing on the inspiration images, I've recommended a few of Sabine poplins, our Theodore light blue chambray, and our soft navy lightweight denim. Some of our other shirting fabrics and poplins would also work very well: to see these, click here.
Prices for fabrics are per quarter metre (0.25 m).
This outfit was inspired by several outfits featured in recent RTW collections and popular fashion blogs. The images in the collage at the top of this page can be found here: image 1 and image 2. To see more shirt dresses, have a look at our shirt dresses board on Pinterest.
