Sew a Knit Shift Dress
Sew a chic knit shift dress! We've got a few patterns to choose from, which all give slightly different silhouettes. We've also got a number of great fabrics. If you're looking for a more structured look, choose ponte. If you're looking for something lighter, choose a jersey.
Just to note, while Grainline's Lark Tee is a t-shirt pattern, Grainline also sells a PDF variation pack on their website which allows you to convert Lark into a dress with a straight or a-line silhouette (the pack also includes two turtleneck variations!). Also, while McCall's 6886 stipulates that it works best with jersey fabrics, many sewers have successfully made it up in ponte as well.
Needing inspiration? Here's some looks that have featured recently on my two favourite websites for following fashion trends, WhoWhatWear and PopSugar Fashion. You can see all these images (and more!) on my 'Sew a Knit Shift Dress' Pinterest board. Some styling suggestion based on these looks: plain-coloured shift dresses are great for showing off a fantastic pair of boots, a great handbag, or a statement cropped jacket!
